I Care, You Care, So... Self Care?

What is self care and why is it so important all of a sudden.


I heard someone say self care is simply the act of putting yourself first. Your inner most wants and needs before the wants and needs of others, not to be selfish but to help align your happiness and your life essentially. Of course as you're reading this you're telling yourself that you're happy and being a recluse isn't going to make you any more happy, you're partially correct. If you've ever wished you could be somewhere else as soon as your alarm clock goes off, or while you're stuck in that meeting that's already gone 40 minutes too long then you could use some re-alignin.


The definition of self care to me is doing anything that makes your heart happy or that makes you feel at ease without the expense of another human.


Self care for me personally is waking up in the morning and writing down everything i can remember from the dreams i've had. Self care to me is a nice hot meal without interruption. Self care to me is getting a $100 manicure (check my IG to see what that looks like ;)), taking an uber, stretching, meditation, reading a book and lounging around with my fur baby. In those moments my mind is the most still. Often i find my mind moving so fast i forget what i'm saying before i finish my sentence. I'm up late at night overthinking scenarios that could happen but probably never will. At work everyone is worried about themselves and not the business so even on the hardest days where i honestly have entirely too much going on, i still don't have the time to process what i'm feeling. Anything that brings my anxiety feelings to a minimum with out guilt and without the expense of another humans pockets, or happiness i'm here for.


Self care for you can literally be anything because no one can take care of you like you can. Do what makes you happy, rekindle an old hobby, go to a therapy session, paint by numbers, sit in silence for 20 minutes. Do what makes your heart and your head feel aligned. Say no to that family function, tell your boss you can't stay another hour, tell that person that keeps blowing you off you're no longer interested. Do whatever it takes to protect your peace friend because nobody got you like you got you, and no one likes a stressed overworked you!!
